New CoLABOR study analyzes trends in employment, productivity and wages by sector of activity in Portugal and the EU-27
The study "Employment, productivity and wages: a sectoral perspective", by sociologist Frederico Cantante, examines the intersection of these variables with the various sectoral and sub-sectoral realities and compares the Portuguese context with that of the EU-27.
Some of the conclusions point to an oversizing of the Accommodation, Food Services and Similar (I) and Administrative Activities and Support Services (N) sectors in the Portuguese economy, showing a deepening of the predominance of the tertiary sector. However, there has also been a significant increase in the primary sector, while there has been a marked decline in employment in industry, with special emphasis on the drop in Manufacturing.
During the period analyzed, between 2013 and 2022, average real earnings increased by 10.6%, while real productivity grew by 18.7%.
