Renato Miguel do Carmo is an associate professor in the sociology department at ISCTE - Instituto Universitário de Lisboa and a researcher at the Center for Research and Studies in Sociology (CIES-Iscte). He is currently director of the Inequalities Observatory and scientific coordinator of CoLABOR. Topics such as social and territorial inequalities, the welfare state, work and employment, public policies, spatial mobility and social capital have been the main themes of his research and the projects he has coordinated. He has recently published in the following journals: European Societies, Journal of Civil Society, Sociologia Ruralis, Time & Society, Sociological Research Online, Geoforum, Community Development, European Planning Studies, among others. He has published 26 books (18 as editor and 8 as author and co-author). He chairs the working group on social inequality indicators of the Statistical Council - Permanent Section on Social Statistics (INE). Since completing his PhD, he has received several scientific awards.
