CoLABOR publishes eBook with reflections on the Social Security System
CoLABOR has just launched the eBook "The debate on the Social Security Welfare System: reflections by the people in charge"a publication that brings together critical analyses by figures who have been directly involved in defining public policies in a key area of the welfare state.
The publication is the result of speeches made at the CoLABOR 2024 Conference on "Social Security and the Green Paper: perspectives and policies", which took place on December 13 in Lisbon and brought together former and current heads of the Labor, Solidarity and Social Security portfolio.
Organized by Manuel Carvalho da Silva, the eBook includes texts by five protagonists with direct experience in the sector: former ministers António Bagão Félix, José António Vieira da Silva, José da Silva Peneda and Paulo Pedroso, as well as current minister Maria do Rosário Palma Ramalho.
The main topics covered include:
The Portuguese contributory social security system: foundations and challenges
Social Security in Portugal: the importance of incremental changes in a consolidated system
Diversification of Social Security revenues and incentives for a welfare culture
The future of Social Security: critical factors on the revenue and expenditure side
Challenges for the Social Security system
In five concise and accessible contributions, the authors share different perspectives on the challenges and opportunities facing the pension system, identifying risks, evaluating proposals and suggesting measures to improve and ensure the sustainability of the pension system.
The texts presented show, in their conceptual and political diversity, as well as in the plurality of approaches, the essential aspects on which future political initiatives will inevitably have to position themselves.
With this initiative - and taking into account the topicality and relevance of the topic - CoLABOR reaffirms its commitment to promoting a plural, informed and future-oriented discussion, contributing to the qualification of the public debate on structural issues of the Welfare State and Democracy.
