From the Decent Work Agenda to the government program
The area of work and labor relations, due to its social, political and economic importance, is one of the structural vectors of any government strategy. The current reality underlines the urgency of rethinking the economic development model pursued in recent decades in Portugal and the legal and labor regime that has supported it. Based on an assessment of the current economic and employment contexts and a negative assessment of the most liberalizing legislation of recent decades, the Decent Work Agenda contains a set of proposals that will, at least tendentially, lead to the amendment of the Labour Code and related regimes.
Underpinned by the ideas of decent work and valuing workers, the Agenda identifies a number of issues and points to the recovery of a fairer model of labor relations, despite the omission of fundamental issues to promote dignity at work and job security.
